Frequently Asked Questions This page contains some of the more frequent questions we get asked. If you have a question or query that is not answered here, feel free to contact us. Do i need a domain name to use your hosting? No, should you not have a domain name we will gladly provide you with a subdomain free of charge. Subdomains look like this: "http://yourchoice.mottyweb.com". I'd like to use a domain name, but how can i get one? If you look around you will be surprised at how many websites sell domain names. Any domain name will work with MottyWeb hosting providing that you are able to set it up correctly. How do i set my domain name up? Once you have purchased your domain name from a valid registrar, enter your control panel or whatever is provided by your registrar to manage your domain(s). From here you simply need to change the nameservers to: ns1.mottyweb.com ns2.mottyweb.com What is cPanel? MottyWeb uses cPanel, a unique website hosting control panel system. We use it because it is feature rich and user friendly. cPanel allows you to easily access to all aspects of your website. Please see cPanel.net for more information. I've set up my domain, but it isn't working! Why is this? Domain names usually take 24-48 hours to resolve to their nameservers. Assuming you have set your domain name up correctly this would be why it is not working. What are MySQL databases? MySQL is the worlds most popular database software. It can be used for many things such as forums and user databases, the majority of users will only encounter them with forums and other automated scripts. What are FTP accounts? FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is primarily used for uploading files, some users may prefer this to uploading in cPanel. FTP accounts are simply accounts to login to your websites' FTP. What do you mean by "unmetered"? Why isn't there a tick symbol instead? "Unmetered" means that there are no number limits on that feature. For example, we used to limit email accounts to 50 on our Bronze package, but now we don't and you may have as many as necessary providing that it does not affect the quality of our service. The tick symbols are there to show what features are available and they are not necessarily features that you would have a number of (therefore cannot be limited). How can I pay? We only accept Paypal for payments. This allows us to accept payments from a much wider variety of countries and it is a very efficient method of payment. What happens if i use up my bandwidth? Should you use up your bandwidth for the month, your account will be suspended until the next month. If you find yourself in this position it may be a wise idea to upgrade to a larger plan. |
